Foster son held over Mirpur woman, house help murder

Police have detained a man over the muder of a woman and her house maid who were found dead at a rented house at capital’s Mirpur-2 on Tuesday (Dec 3) evening.
Shohel, the foster son of 60-year-old deceased Shahida Begum Rahima, was detained in connection with the murder late on Tuesday, police said.
After primary inspection, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (crime) Krishnapada Roy on Tuesday (Dec 4) said, the victims might have been strangled before death but it can be ascertained after autopsy.
Rahima’s 20-year-old domestic help Sumi who was also killed, joined work at the house just a day before the incident.
Locals said that Shaheda Begum and her foster son Shohel have been living in the rented flat since six months.
According to Shaheda’s family, her husband Kuddus Mia lives in Jashore and her daughter lives with her family in Narayanganj.
