Masud Bin Momen. FILE PHOTODiplomat Masud Bin Momen has got his first assignment after returning Dhaka.
A secretary with the foreign ministry, Momen will lead the Bangladeshi side at the second foreign office consultation meeting with the Philippines in Dhaka on Tuesday (Dec 3).
After serving as Bangladesh's envoy in Italy, Japan and the UN, Momen returned to Dhaka last week at the foreign ministry.
On the meeting with Manila, he told Bangla Tribune, “We would discuss entire gamut of existing issues and also some new areas of cooperation.”
He said stolen fund from Bangladesh Bank, Rohingya crisis and other important issues will be discussed.
“Any country can be a victim of such cyber crime and Dhaka and Manila should work together to fight the rogue act to protect themselves,” he said.
So far, about $16 million was recovered as those are physically detected in different bank accounts and the rest about $66 million is feared to be melted out through casino.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the foreign ministry seeking anonymity said, “Nurse training cooperation, Rohingya problem, acquiring of food processing technology from Manila and export more Bangladeshi products to that country are other agenda that both the sides would discuss in the meeting.”
He said, “Manila produces one of the best nurses in the world and we want to have training cooperation so that we can have better medical services.”
Not only it will help the domestic medical industry but also qualified nurses can be recruited abroad, he said.
Manila is an important country of Asean and we would seek their support to Rohingya crisis as if it prolongs it would have negative impact in the security of the region, the official said.
Masud bin Momen will sit with his Filipino counterpart Meynardo Montealegre in the second political consultation in Dhaka while the first such consultation was held in Manila in 2015.
