Court orders further probe in Shomi Kaiser case

Shomi Kaiser lost her two cell phones during a program at the National Press Club on Apr 24, where she was giving a speech.A Dhaka court has ordered further probe in the defamation case against Shomi Kaiser.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to open another fresh inquiry and submit findings on the defamation case filed against Shomi Kaiser.
On Monday (Nov 25), the metropolitan magistrate ordered the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for a fresh inquiry after the plaintiff expressed his no confidence on the probe report filed by the Dhaka metro police, plaintiff Nuzhatul Hasan told Bangla Tribune.
Hasan, the editor of studentjournalbd.com, filed the defamation case against the actress over an ‘insulting’ exchange with journalists at National Press Club.
Shahbagh police OC (Investigation) Mahbub Rahman submitted a probe report on Oct 24, which said the allegations were not found to be true.
On Apr 24, Shomi, the president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost both her cell phones during a program at the National Press Club.
During the ongoing search for the lost items at the locked conference room, Shomi reportedly termed reporters as “thieves” which sparked strong criticism and condemnation from journalists present there.
Later, TV camera footage showed a staff who delivered the cake at the programme stole the phones.
