The old Jamatul Mujahidin Bangladesh, JMB, set up training camps on leased land on the hill tracts and trained militants, informed DMP’s Counter Terrorism Unit, CTTC, head Monirul Islam. The head of CTTC gave this information on Monday, 25 November, during a press conference.
Earlier, on 24 November night, CTTC special action group carried out a drive in Bhatara area in the capital and arrested three members of JMB.
The three are: Abu Raihan, Habibur Rahman and Rajibur Rahman.
Of them, Abu Raihan was the amir of old JMB, said, Monirul Islam.
With the help of locals in the hill tracts, they leased a land and built a madrasa.
CTTC had been keeping an eye on Neo JMB and old JMB for some time and as part the vigilance, three members were arrested.
From the arrested, 150 detonators, Jihadi literature, one commando knife and 20 pieces of gel-like explosives were recovered.
Monirul Islam said that Abu Raihan is the brother in law of militant Salehi who attacked a prison van in Trishal Mymensingh and fled.
Salehi declared himself the international amir of global JMB. At that time, the amir was Khorshed Alam and once Khorshed died, Abu Raihan was declared the amir of Bangladesh chapter.
“The new JMB which attacked the police has a five-member militant cell; all of them have been identified and already, three persons have been arrested.”
Since hill tracts are remote, militants chose this area, said Monirul Islam, adding: “we are trying to find out the persons through whom they leased the land.”
