Expelled Jubo League Dhaka south leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Samrat fell sick at the Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday (Nov 23) night and was brought to BSMMU later. He has been kept at the cardiology department’s CCU 2.
Central Jail Official Bikash Raihan said: “As he (Samrat) fell sick, he was taken to Gazipur Shaheed Tazuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital, later, doctors there suggested to taken him to BSMMU.”
Earlier on Oct 8, after complaining of chest pain at the Central Jail in Kashimpur, Samtar was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and was later shifted to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Agargaon.
He was discharged later from NICVD on Oct 12.
Samrat was supposed to be taken to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) office in Segunbagicha, Dhaka on Sunday.
On Nov 12, ACC filed a case against Samrat and his associate Enamul Haque Arman , on charges of amassing illegal wealth.
ACC's Public Relations Officer (PRO) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said: “The accused Samrat and Enamul were involved in the illegal casino business and had illegally amassed wealth of TK 29.4 million and Tk 20.5 million, respectively.”
According to the ACC report, the commission learnt that Samrat had amassed illegal wealth worth Tk 10 billion abroad.
On Oct 6, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the ex-Dhaka South Jubo League president Samrat, and his accomplice Arman from the Chauddagram upazila of Cumilla, over their alleged involvement with illicit casino operations.
RAB Executive Magistrate Sarwoer Alam sentenced Samrat, under the Wildlife (preservation and security) Act for six months in prison for keeping two kangaroo hides in his possession.
Following the arrest, RAB filed two cases against expelled Jubo League leader Samrat and his accomplice Arman with the Ramna police station.
Samrat was sued under the narcotics and arms acts, while Arman was sued under the Narcotics Act only.
