Abrar murder: Family wants to pick prosecution

File Photo/Mahmud Hossain OpuThe family of slain Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad want lawyers chosen by them in the prosecution.
“A special prosecution team will be formed for Abrar’s murder case. We want a few legal experts of our choice in that team,” Abrar’s cousin Jahurul Islam told Bangla Tribune on Wednesday (Nov 6).
He added that they spoke to the vice chancellor regarding the matter and he has assured his full cooperation.
On Oct 7, Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of the university, was beaten to death.
A group of BCL BUET unit leaders and activists bludgeoned Abrarto death allegedly for his social media post criticizing the recent Bangladesh-India deal on sharing the water of Five River.
Abrar's father BarkatUllah filed a murder case against 19 people with the capital's Chawkbazar police.
The killing of Abrar sparked protest across the country with protesters demanding justice for Abrar and capital punishment for the murderers.
The BUET authorities also banned the activities of all political student bodies on the campus amid the student protest.
