Leading national daily Prothom Alo has been served with a legal notice seeking Tk 100 million for Dhaka Residential Model College student Naimul Abrar who was electrocuted during an event for the daily’s magazine for juveniles.
Supreme court lawyer Faizullah Foyez sent the notice on behalf of former student of the college Obaid Ahmed on Sunday (Oct 3).
The notice has been directed towards Prothom Alo’s publisher and editor, the editor of Kishor Alo, the information, education and power, energy and mineral resources secretaries.
However, Prothom Alo’s publisher and editor, the editor of Kishor Alo have been asked to pay the compensation.
They have also been asked to provide an explanation within three days of receivingthe notice.
The notice also asked the aforementioned secretaries to ensure special security measures in case of any programs at educational institutions.
Abrar, a nonresident student of the Residential Model College received electric shock from a power generator set up behind a stage set up for “Ki Ananda”, an event of the daily Prothom Alo’s magazine for juveniles 'Kishor Alo' on Friday (Nov 1).
The college has opened an inquiry over the ninth-grader's death amid students' demonstrations.
