Another child injured in the explosion of a balloon vendor's gas cylinder in Dhaka’s Mirpur, has died while undergoing treatment, raising the death toll to seven.
Eight-year-old Nihad died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) ICU on early on Thursday (Oct 31), confirmed DMCH police outpost in-charge Bacchu Mia.
The blast at Mirpur’s Rupnagar on Wednesday (Oct 30) killed five children on spot while another died hours later at the hospital. Around 15 people have also been injured.
The deceased have been identified as Farzana, 7, Nupur, 11, Rubel, 10, Ramzan, 8, Shahin, 9 and Ria Moni, 10.
All the deceased lived in the Jheelpar (Fajr Ali Madbar) slum in the area and their families asked for the government's assistance in paying for the funeral costs.
A Dhaka district administration official said that each of the families of the deceased will be given Tk 20,000 and the injured will be given Tk 5,000-10,000 from the government.
