The police have detained the balloon vendor over the gas cylinder blast incident, which left six children dead at Dhaka’s Mirpur.
The injured vendor, Abu Sayeed was undergoing treatment at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in police’s custody, Rupnagar police OC Abul Kalam Azad confirmed police arrested Abu in charge of illegal explosives and homicide on Wednesday (Oct 30).
OC Azad said, “Abu was undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital. We primarily interrogated him there, but as he is severely injured, he can barely talk.”
“He confessed that he used to produce gas by himself from chemicals bought from Chawkbazar. He started this profession less than 20 days ago,” he added.
On Wednesday (Oct 30), six children died and at least 20 others, mostly children, were seriously injured in the blast on road 11 in Mirpur’s Rupnagar around 3:00pm. This blast occured by a gas cylinder Abu used to inflate balloons.
