Five charged with FR Tower design forgery

A building is seen where a fire broke out in Dhaka, Bangladesh, March 28, 2019.The Anti Corruption Commission has charged five people including a former chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Katripahha (RAJUK) with the design irregularities in Banani’s FR Tower.
ACC approved the charge sheet on Monday (Oct 28), ACC Deputy Director Pranav Bhattacharjee told Bangla Tribune.
The accused are: former RAJUK chairman Humayun Khadem, Rupayan Housing Estate Chairman Liakat Ali Khan Mukul, former RAJUK chief engineer Md Sayedur Rahman and former authorised officer Syed Makbul Ahmed.
ACC filed against over the matter with its Integrated District Office on Jun 25, nearly a month after a fire at the building killed 26 people on Mar 28.
According to the graft watchdog the 23-storied FR Tower was built in violation of the building code. They said that rules were adhered to during the construction from the 15th floor to the 23rd floor.
Moreover, during the probe ACC found two contradicting designs; one showing that the building obtained approval till 18-storey while the other showed its approval till the 23-storey.
