The High Court has ordered authorities not to harass or arrest Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus until Nov 7 in cases filed by sacked employees of Grameen Communications.
It, however, asked Yunus, who heads the board of Grameen Communications, to surrender before the trial court by that time.
On Monday (Oct 28,) The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice KhandakerDiliruzzaman passed the order after hearing a petition.
Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud argued for petitioner while Deputy Attorney General SaifuddinKhalekstood for the state.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Mahmud said that his client will surrender to the trial court and plead for bail after returning from abroad.
On Oct9, Dhaka’s third labour court ordered Yunus’ arrest over the cases.
On Jul 3, former junior MIS officers of Grameen Communications Abdus Salam, Shah Alam and EmranulHaquefiled the cases against Yunus and two others as they were sacked for their role in forming a trade union at their workplace.
The two other Grameen Communications officials, who were made accused in the cases, are Managing Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy General Manager Khandaker Abu Abedin.
