“Necessary steps will be taken to place the appeal and death references at the High Court bench concerned,” he told reporters at his office, expressing satisfaction with the verdict, on Thursday, reports UNB.
A Feni tribunal sentenced 16 people to death in Nusrat murder case. The lower court will now send the death reference copy to the High Court for approval.
Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mamunur Rashid passed the verdict at 11:21am on Thursday in the presence of the accused.
On Apr, 18-year-old Nusrat Jahan Rafi, an Alim examinee of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set on fire in broad daylight on the roof of the madrasa by people loyal to principal Sirajuddaula, when she refused to withdraw a sexual harassment case her family filed against him on Mar 27.
She succumbed to her critical burn injuries at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 10, which sparked nationwide outrage and a public demand for swift justice against the perpetrators.
