Non-MPO teachers begin fast unto death

non-MPO teachers protestsTeachers and employees of the non-MPO educational institutions has began a fast unto death demanding enlistment of their institutions under the Monthly Pay Order (MPO) scheme.
As many as 32 teachers under the banner of Non-MPO Education Institutions Teachers and Employees Federation began the demonstration in front of the capital's National Press Club on Monday (Oct 21).
They also demanded to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
President of the Federation Golam Mahmudunnabi Dollar said that PM Hasina assured the teachers of meeting their demands on Jan 5, 2018.
"She [Hasina] told that implementation of the MOP facility would start this fiscal," Dolllar quoted the PM before adding no decision has been made yet.
"We want to meet the PM and hope the MOP scheme will be implemented," the federation chief said.
General Secretary of Non-MPO Education Institutions Teachers and Employees Federation Principal Binay Bhushan Roy said they only demand their institutions be enlisted for the MPO facilities.
In addition to Monday's protest, over a hundred teachers and employees demonstrated a sit-in programme to press their demand.
