The decision to beat Abrar was taken at that meeting. Then, on the fatal night of Oct 6, when Abrar was taken to room 2011, the first strike was by Robein.

Robein said this during a confessional statement given at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Monday (Oct 14).

At the confessional statement, he said: “We checked his phone after he came to room 2011. Initially we slapped him and then came back later to beat him with cricket stumps and sticks.”

Police arrested Robein on Oct 8 and requested ten days remand to which the court approved five days.

Robein and his cohorts beat up Abrar with sticks, ropes and stumps and due to the indiscriminate beating, Abrar died on the spot.

The police have arrested 19 persons so far over the killing of Abrar.

Eight are still in remand and will be sent to court after remand period ends. Joint police commissioner of DB Md Mahbubul Alam, says: “After assessing all aspects, the charge sheets will be submitted within the first week of November.”

Abrar was beaten to death on Oct 6 night by BUET Chhatra League leaders. The father of the deceased, Md Barkatullah, lodged a case accusing 19 persons.
