File Photo/Mahmud Hossain OpuPolice have made another arrest over the murder inside a dormitory of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
Moaz Abu Huraira, a student of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department, was detained on Saturday (Oct 12) from Dhaka, says the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The 17th batch EEE student, who hails from Kishoreganj, was picked up from the capital’s Uttara. He was later produced before a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate's court, where police was granted five days custody for interrogation.
With Moaz's arrest, a total of 19 arrests have been made so far. Of them, 17 have been remanded for different periods.
A second year EEE student, Abrar Fahad was tortured to death allegedly by leaders of the ruling Awami League’s student front Bangladesh Chhatra League in Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of Oct 7.
The BCL activists reportedly bludgeoned Abrar for his Facebook post protesting against a recent deal between Bangladesh and India.
His father started a murder case against 19 people — all BUET students — with the Chawkbazar Police Station in Dhaka the same day.
