A Dhaka court has remanded Salim Prodhan, the alleged online casino kingpin, and his two associates in a case under the narcotics law.

On Thursday (Oct 3), police produced the three before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Moinul Islam and sought seven days of custody for each in the case filed with the Gulshan police station. The court granted four days.

Salim is Chairman of Prodhan Group. It has a company called P24 Gaming that reportedly operates online gambling in the country.

Another company of the group, Japan Bangladesh Security Printing and Papers, is registered with the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Other organisations owned by Salim include several spas and beauty salons and a law firm.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested him at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka when he was about to embark on a Thailand-bound flight on Monday (Sept 30).

Later, law enforcers raided at his office and residence in Gulshan.

RAB said they seized Tk 798,000, foreign currencies worth over Tk 7.76 million of 26 countries, and 48 bottles of liquor from Salim’s residence. They also seized Tk 2.12 million from his office.

One server, four laptops and a desktop computer used for the gambling operations were also seized during the raids.

MdAkhtaruzzaman, who was the in-charge of the gambling site, and Md Roman were also arrested during the raid. The two have been also placed in remand by the court on Thursday.
