A Dhaka court has placed Mohammedan Sporting Club’s Director in-charge Md Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan on a two-day fresh remand in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act.
Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam passed the order as Lokman was produced before the court on Monday (Sept 30) after the end of a two-day-long police interrogation.
Tejgaon police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamrul Islam, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, however, sought five-day remand afresh to grill Lokman under police custody.
In the remand prayer, the IO mentioned the accused provided important information in the first phase of interrogation, and he needed to quiz him again for the sake of proper investigation.
Meanwhile, defense lawyers submitted their bail petition with remand rejection prayers before the court for the accused, but the court rejected the plea after hearing.
On Sept 27, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansari put Lokman, also a director of Bangladesh Cricket Board, on a two-day remand in the case.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) filed the case after they detained Lokman in a raid at his house at Monipuripara in Tejgaon on Sept 26.
He was taken into RAB custody for keeping illegal foreign liquor in his home without any permit.
The raid at Lokman's residence came three days after another drive that shut down illegal gambling operations inside Mohammedan Sporting Club in Motijheel on Sept 22.
During the raid, police had seized roulette tables and betting boards from the sports organization.
