Police have raided Fu Wang Club in Dhaka's Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road as part of its ongoing crackdown against illegal casinos.
Amid allegations of running a casino, a team led by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Tejgaon Zone Divisional Commissioner Anisur Rahman raided the club around 5pm on Monday (Sept 23).
Police started the raid around 5pm, and the operation is still on and we are trying to find out whether there is are anything else in the club apart for the bar, said Additional Commissioner of DMP Hafiz Al Faruk.
Since Sept 18, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police raided different clubs in Dhaka and Chittagong busting illegal casinos where several people were detained.
Most of these are sporting clubs who were found operating illegal casinos.
Fu Wang club was also raided before for having a bar and a casino, in addition to a restaurant and gymnasium.
On Nov 1, 2007, RAB raided the club in search for criminals.
Later in Nov 2015, RAB seized liquors from the club as the authorities failed to show valid documents in support of selling alcohol at the club.
