The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized FDR documents worth Tk 1.65 billion and Tk 18 million in cash from the office of Jubo League leader GK Shamim who sits on the Awami League front body's central committee.

In addition to the FDR and cash, one modern fire-arm, seven shotguns and ammunition from his bodyguards and bottles of foreign liquor were seized from the office, RAB legal and media wing Director Sarwar Bin Kashem told Bangla Tribune

The elite police unit raided his construction firm GK Builders offices after picking him up from his home at the Niketon Residential Area in the capital's Gulshan on Friday (Sept 20).

“The Tk 1.4 billion FDR is in Shamim’s mother’s name and Tk 250 million is in his name,” he said and added that there are allegations of his involvement in extortion and rigging tenders.

Meanwhile, Executive Magistrate Sarwar Alam said, that Shamim will have to prove the validity of the source of that money in court.

Responding to queries on the arms, he said, “The arms are illegal. But there are allegations that they were used for illegal purposes. Hence, we seized them.”

Earlier, RAB legal and media wing Deputy Director Hussain Raisul Azam Moni had said that the raid was being conducted based on allegations against Shamim.

According to sources, Shamim’s name came up in the confession of Jubo League Dhaka South Organisation Secretary Khaled Mahmud, who is being held over allegedly patronizing an illegal underground casino at Dhaka’s Fakirapool.
