Dhaka Metropolitan Police, DMP, commissioner, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, has said that illegal casinos or any unauthorised gambling will not be allowed in the city.

“Irrespective of the people associated with this, the police will be firm in enforcing the law; RAB has begun operation and now the police will also take up the task.”

The commissioner made the comments on Thursday, 19 September noon while talking to the media.

I took up responsibility this week and have asked for a list to be made on gambling points across the city, said the commissioner.

“Those who are coming to the casinos are taking drugs and so, once these are stopped, drug-taking will also end.”

Police will provide support when there is untainted entertainment but steps will be taken in cases where drug-taking and obscene acts are going on using enjoyment as cover, observed the commissioner.

Strict measures will be taken against those operating gambling boards, came the police officer’s unequivocal warning.
