Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU)Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University (BSMRSTU) authorities at Gopalganj have withdrawn the suspension order against second-year-law student and a news agency campus correspondent Fatema Tuz Zinia.
The move came on Tuesday (Sept 18), four days after Vice Chancellor Khondoker Nasiruddin faced severe backlash when an audio clip of a conversation between him and Zinia went viral on social media.
“Fatema Tuz Zinia was suspended from the university for publishing objectionable information about the university and trying to mislead the administration,” the withdrawal statement read.
It said that her suspension is being withdrawn on account of the law department students and teachers apologizing for her actions.
Meanwhile, Zinia claims that she hasn’t sought an apology. “I didn’t do anything wrong. Why would the teachers and students apologise for me? I know none of the students went.”
Zinia, the campus correspondent for The Daily Sun was suspended on September 10 for posting a status on her Facebook account, which the authorities claimed tarnished the university’s image.
Her suspension sparked protests with campus correspondents from various universities seeking the withdrawal of suspension and stepping down of the vice chancellor for his controversial remarks.
