Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon FACEBOOKAfter being removed as the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Rezwanul Haque Chowdhury Shovon has stepped down as a member of the Dhaka University senate.
“I have formally resigned [from the senate],” he told Bangla Tribune on Monday (Sept 16).
Earlier in the day, he filed his resignation to the vice-chancellor, who serves as the president of the senate.
On behalf of Shovon, some BCL leaders Sabuj submitted the resignation letter at the offices of Vice Chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman.
In his resignation letter, Shovon wrote that he was unable to carry out the responsibilities of a senate member due to “personal problems”.
The vice chancellor (VC) has confirmed of receiving Shovon’s resignation. “Due procedures will be followed as per the regulations,” Akhtaruzzamn told Bangla Tribune.
Shovon’s resignation comes two days after Prime Minister and Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina order the ouster of him and his deputy in BCL Golam Rabbani, who was serving as the general secretary, amid allegations of extortion.
The prime minister also selected new leadership for the ruling party’s student body on the same day.
Hasina nominated BCL First Vice-President Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Joint General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee as the acting president and general secretary until new leaders are elected.
