A couple has allegedly abandoned their newborn at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
DMCH authorities said that the child was born by Caesarean section early morning on Friday (Sept 13) and the parents were not seen since late on Saturday (Sept 14).
Official documents show that the parents, Rasel and Nahar, were residents of Dhaka’s Mirpur.
DMCH authorities said on Sunday (Sept 15) that a report will be filed with the local Shahbagh police station.
“The baby will be later kept at the Social Welfare Department’s Azimpur orphanage,” DMCH Assistant Director Nasir Uddin told Bangla Tribune.
He added that the baby, which is now at the neonatal ward, was doing fine.
“If no one claims then the baby will be given to the custody of the social welfare department after due legal procedures,” said the senior DMCH official.
