A general view of Dhaka Central Jail, Keraniganj. PHOTO/prison.gov.bdA database of prisoners is being prepared which will contain all relevant information about their cases and their complete criminal history. This database will gradually be linked to the NID server, the immigration department of the airport and the passport office. This will make detection of criminals easier and prevent the culture of absconding after securing bail.
The database will be inaugurated by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan. At present, there are 13 central prisons and 55 district prisons with more than 80 thousand prisoners.
Once the database is implemented, a total idea of prisoners, their crime type, address, case dates and other relevant information will be available at a click.
The database will contain finger prints, optical scans and previous crime records. On the other hand, this will also bring transparency to the process of incarceration.
It will also be possible to know security arranged for prisoners and other facts.
Additional IG (prisons) Md Abrar Hossain, said: “The database is being implemented at Kashimpur-2 and Gazipur prison; we can do a lot with this.”
RAB also has a database which contains information of detained prisoners and it’s called ‘RAB prison inmate database’, which was launched in 2016.
