To carry out the necessary amendments, a four-member committee has been formed with additional secretary Nazmul Haque Khan as the head.

Talking about the issue, Nazmul Haque Khan, says: “We have started the work for amendment following a directive from the education minister.”

Joint secretary of the secondary and higher secondary education division, Salma Jahan, says: “any academic institution will have to take the responsibility for coaching; the committee will give suggestions and if necessary, take action.”

Director, secondary and higher secondary education, Dr Abdul Mannan, observes: “Work is underway to form committees at all education institutes to stop coaching trade; the five-member committee will also have a guardian.”

The academic guideline, published in 2018, underlined the stopping of coaching trade but it could not be implemented.

The usage of posters, festoons, banners, newspaper ads to provide coaching for admission with the aim of making a financial profit is defined as coaching trade.

The guideline of 2012 clearly states that no teacher is allowed to give coaching sessions while the academic session is on. However, with permission from the institution, a teacher can impart several classes with no more than ten students.

It also states that coaching trade cannot run after renting a flat solely for this purpose. Since the plan to have monitoring committees at upazila levels did not materialise, the education minister gave an order to have school-level committees.
