Put Bangabandhu's portrait at all courtrooms: HC

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. PHOTO: BSS)The High Court has issued an order to mount the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at all courtrooms in the country within two days.

The court bench of Justice F R M Nazmul Ahasan and Justice K M Kamrul Kader gave the order on Thursday (Aug 29) during the hearing of a writ petition filed in this connection.

Advocate Subir Nandi Das filed a writ petition at the court on Aug 21. In the petition, he mentioned that according to article 4(A) of the Bangladesh constitution, it is mandatory to set up Bangabandhu's portrait in every government, semi-government and autonomous offices.

Article 4(A) states: The portrait of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman shall be preserved and displayed at the offices of the president, the prime minister, the speaker and the chief justice and in head and branch offices of all government and semi-government offices, autonomous bodies, statutory public authorities, government and non-government educational institutions, embassies and missions of Bangladesh abroad.

Secretaries to the law, public works and finance ministries, registrar general of the Supreme Court and registrar of the High Court division were made respondents to the petition.
