Newly appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Shafiqul Islam Vowing to keep the capital safe, newly appointed commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Mohammad Shafiqul Islam has said he would work together to check militancy and traffic.
"I will try to the best of my abilities to work with the city people and my collogues to keep Dhaka safe. [I] will work together to check militancy and traffic [in the capital]," Islam told Bangla Tribune over the cell phone on Wednesday (Aug 2) evening hours after the home ministry appointed him as the DPM commissioner.
Islam, who had been serving as an additional inspector general of police (IGP) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID), succeeded Asaduzzaman Mia, effective immediately, according to a home ministry gazette issued earlier in the day.
The new DMP chief sought the cooperation of the people from all walks of life to carry out his professional duties.
Islam became the 26th commissioner of DMP since the metropolitan force started its journey on Feb 1, 1976.
