99 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims dead so far in Saudi Arabia

FILE PHOTO/SAZZAD HOSSAINAt least 99 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims have died of various reasons in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia so far.
The latest bulletin of the Bangladesh Hajj Management Portal, under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, confirmed the number of deaths on Saturday (Aug 24).
Among the deceased, 83 were males and 16 were females. Of the pilgrims, 88 died in Makkah, 10 in Medina, and one in Jeddah.
According to the bulletin, 78-year-old Md Fakhrul Islam died in Makkah on Friday (Aug 23). He hailed from Rajshahi.
Meanwhile, the return flights carrying pilgrims started from Aug 17 and will continue till Sept 15.
As many as 30,354 pilgrims returned Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia by 83 flights so far, the bulletin said.
Of the flights, 35 were operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines and 48 by Saudi Arabian Airlines, it said.
A total of 2,489,406 Muslim pilgrims from all over the world performed Hajj on Aug 10. Of them, 55.65% were men and 44.35% women.
The number of Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims under government and private management were 126,923 this year.
The first Hajj flight of the year left Dhaka for Saudi Arabia on Jul 4 and the last flight was operated on Aug 5.
