FR Tower design fraud: Tasvir gets bail

Tasvir-Ul-Islam at ACC on Aug 18, 19. Focus BanglaA Dhaka court has granted bail to Tasvir-Ul-Islam, one of the owners of Banani's FR Tower, in a case filed over design forgery of the building.

Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order on Monday (Aug 19).

The court granted him bail till Aug 29.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Abu Bakar Siddique, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced the accused before the court.

Meanwhile, lawyer of the accused Ehsanul Haq Samaji submitted a bail petition while Public Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajal opposed the petition.

After the hearing, the court granted bail to Tasvir considering his physical condition and age.

The ACC arrested Tasvirul Islam from Segunbagicha area in Dhaka on Sunday  (Aug 18).

Tasvir is also the managing director of Quasem Drycells Ltd.

Over 25 people were killed in the massive fire that broke out in the FR Tower on Mar 27.

Earlier on Jun 25, the ACC filed two cases against 23 people, including FR Tower owners and two chairmen of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk), for their alleged involvement in illegally extending the tower beyond the permitted number of floors.

On Jul 30, the commission arrested Rajuk Assistant Director Shah Md Badrul Alam in the case.
