The High Court has expressed its dissatisfaction over the measures taken by the Dhaka's two city corporations to prevent dengue.
The High Court bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader made the comments on Sunday (Aug 18) while hearing on a suo moto move taken by the court early this month after Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar submitted a progress report of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on the measures taken by them to prevent dengue outbreak.
The court said if the officials concerned of Dhaka North (DNCC) and Dhaka South (DSCC) city corporations took preventive measures on time, the present dengue crisis could have been avoided.
Those who had the responsibility to properly monitor the dengue situation did not perform their duties properly and lacked necessary skills along with the right intent, the court added.
The court then asked the government regarding the different figures of dengue casualties circulating in the media.
Answering to the court's query, DAG Bashar informed the court that officially 48 persons have died of dengue fever and others might have died of heart attack.
