An estimated 27,876 of dengue patients have been released from hospitals till Saturday (Aug 10) after a staggering 36,668 patients became infected with the mosquito-borne fever since the beginning of the year.

The statistics were revealed at a regular meeting of the Health Directorate on the dengue outbreak on Saturday, stating that the number of cured patients was rising.

According to the directorate, the rate of cured patients had risen by 24 percent and 19 percent respectively on Aug 8 and 9 compared to Aug 7.

The 40 state-sponsored and private hospitals in Dhaka were providing treatment to 5,076 patients out of the 8,763 cases reported across the country.

The directorate admitted that the number of cases was rising outside the capital where an estimated 3,687 patients were receiving treatment in hospitals.

A total of 2,002 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours although the directorate claimed that the number of new patients admitted with the fever had fallen by 14 percent on Aug 9 compared to Aug 8.

The Health Directorate has so far confirmed 29 dengue deaths.

It was also said at the meeting that the Disease Control unit of the directorate would organise a special workshop on dengue management under special circumstances with the aid of the Bangladesh Paediatric Association for paediatricians at two private hospitals.
