Police have arrested BNP executive committee member and Managing Director (MD) of ABN Group Syed Sadat Ahmed from Dhaka as he was out of trace for four months and eight days. On Saturday (Dec 30), Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) arrested him from Rampura Bridge area around 10 pm, DB Joint Commissioner Abdul Baten told the Bangla Tribune.
“We arrested him on Saturday night. We will give you details on Sunday morning,” he said.
A source at DB said Sadat was shown arrested in a vandalism case filed at Ramna police station in 2015. On Sunday morning, he would be sent to court.
However, Sadat's wife Luna Sadat Ahmed told the Bangla Tribune, “We still had not heard anything about Sadat’s reappearance or arrest. Police have not told us anything… All we have heard is in the media… We are trying to find out what is going on.”
“Seven or Eight people identifying themselves as law enforcement picked him up in a microbus on August 22. We have had no trace of him since”, she added.
Manager of ABN Group, Nazrul Islam alleged that Syed Sadat Ahmed was kidnapped from the Airport Road of Cantonment Police Station area on August 22 afternoon.
