A total of 1,002 university teachers across Bangladesh have expressed their concern over the "bureaucratic move for formulating a uniform policy" on recruitment, and promotion at the public universities.
The teachers under a new platform styled Bangladesh University Teachers' Forum (BUTF), said they were against such a move as it included no representation from the university teachers.
As part of the move, a meeting was scheduled to be held on Sunday at the Ministry of Education where no representative from among teachers was invited to discuss the important issue, a press release said on Saturday.
Government high officials and UGC chairman along with its members were invited to the meeting, it said.
Although the UGC chairman and its members were university teachers, they do not represent the teachers directly, it said.
The BUTF, however, urged the government to include educationists, intellectuals, and teachers' representatives so that they can express their opinions on the matter.
The teachers' forum also said, an open discussion should be held among the key stakeholders, in order to reach a consensus for making a sustainable policy, which would be accepted by the academics.
"Otherwise, nothing good will come out of this meeting," the press release added.
