The High Court has been moved for investigating the broad daylight killing of Barguna’s Rifat Sharif by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) or Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
On Thursday (Jul 25), Supreme Court lawyer Younus Ali Akhand filed a petition seeking the court’s directive on the government to transfer case from the local police for proper investigation.
The plea also requested the court to scrap the remand order of Rifat’s wife Aysha Siddika Minni and her confessional statement in connection with the case.
It also sought a judicial enquiry into the incident of killing Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, the key suspect in the murder, in a gunfight with the law enforcers.
On Jun 26, Rifat Sharif was hacked to death in Barguna city in broad daylight by a group of young men in front of his wife Minni.
In footage of the incident that went viral on social media, the victim’s wife was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the assailants in vain.
