Writ seeks Tk 100m compensation for death of traffic sergeant

Golam Kibria. File PhotoA writ has been lodged at the High Court demanding Tk 100 million compensation for the death of traffic sergeant Golam Kibria by a covered van.
On Tuesday (Jul 23), the writ was lodged by Advocate Md. Faizullah on behalf of Yunus Ali Sardar, father of the Golam Kibria.
The writ mentions ten persons, including secretaries of home and communication, IGP of police, chairman of the Jamuna Group and others as defendants. The writ hearing will be at the joint bench of justices, JBM Hassan and Md Khairul Alam.
On Jul 15, traffic sergeant, Golam Kibria, was severely injured while performing official duty on the Barishal-Patuakhali highway when a covered van ran over him. Kibria was sent to Dhaka from Barishal that evening by helicopter and later, died at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The covered van was seized by police and the driver arrested.
