Bheramara MapA pregnant woman has reportedly died due to excessive bleeding after delivering a child at a private clinic in Kushtia following which agitated relatives and local vandalised the facility.

The incident was reported on Saturday (Jul 20) from the district’s Bheramara Upazila, according to media reports.

The deceased is Ritu Khatun, 22, wife of Anisur Rahman of Mirpur upazila.

"Ritu was admitted to the clinic with labour pain at 12 am on Friday, when the clinic owner told them that there was no option except a caesarean [C-Section] operation,” an English national quoted Ritu’s cousin Rabbi saying.

"She gave birth to a baby boy under Dr TA Kamali's supervision. However, she soon died due to excessive bleeding after the birth, as the clinic did not have necessary instruments to treat her."

To cover up the incident, the hospital authorities sent the body to Ritu's home in a rented private car, locals claimed.

"Agitated locals and Ritu's relatives took position in front of the clinic on Saturday morning. The protestors assaulted the clinic's owners- Ashraful and Shilpi Khatun- and handed them over to police," Bheramara police OC Rifaj Uddin was quoted saying.

He said legal actions will be initiated once a case is started before adding supervising doctor Kamali was on the run following the incident.
