In the research conducted in two phases, the team led by ABM Faroque found found unsafe levels of Oxytetracycline, Enrofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin and Levofloxacin in seven widely sold milk brands of five companies.Former director of Dhaka University Biomedical Research Centre Professor ABM Faroque has handed over the report finding antibiotics in seven milk samples to the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA).
He sent the reports to BFSA on Sunday (Jul 14), as the government agencies had written to him asking for them.

“Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) wanted to know where the research was conducted, how it was done and what procedures were followed,” Faroque told Bangla Tribune.
Confirming that they have received the report, BFSA Director Abu Shahid Saleh Mohammad Juberi said, “We wanted a detailed report on the actual findings of the procedure he used.”
He added that a technical working group will be looking into the matter and steps will be taken accordingly.
Earlier in the day, the High Court ordered Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) to conduct test of the pasteurised milk produced by all the 14 companies registered by the institution at four laboratories.
The organisation has been ordered to carry out the tests at: Institute of Public Health (IPH), International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB), Feed and Food Safety Laboratory under Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute, and Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR).
The HC bench ordered the lab reports to be submitted on July 23.
A group of researchers led by Professor ABM Faroque claimed that antibiotics, detergent, coliform bacteria and other forms of hazardous materials were found in pasteurized milk products.
