12 killed in road crashes across Bangladesh

Cumilla bus accident on Jul 11, 2019.At least 12 people were killed and several others injured in road crashes across Bangladesh on Thursday (Jul 17).

In Cumilla, four people were killed and at least 15 others passengers were injured when a bus was rear-ended by a truck at Keshanpur area near the district town, said Md Mostafa Kamal, who is in charge of the local Lalmai Highway Police outpost.

In Rajshahi, two men were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Godagari upazila.

The deceased Nuruzzaman, 50, and Ayub Khan, 50, died on the spot.

Godagari police station OC Jahangir Alam said: “A mango laden truck lost control and fell into a ditch near Kamarpara.

“We seized the vehicles and sent the bodies to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.”

In Khulna, two people were killed in a head-on collision between a three-wheeler and a pick-up van in Arongghata of Daulatpur upazila.

The deceased Ariful died on the spot and Insan died at a hospital.

Arongghata police station OC Rejaul Karim said police seized the vehicles.

In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist was killed after colliding head-on with a minibus on the Pirganj-Thakurgaon road of Tetultola.

The deceased Ramjan died on the spot. Pirganj police station OC Bajlur Rashid said: “We sent his dead-body to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In Natore, a college student was killed and one other injured when a motorcycle carrying them lost control and hit a tree in Jamtoil of Naldanga upazila.

The deceased was Apurbo and the injured were both students of Dighapatia MK College.

In Habiganj, a man was killed when crossing the road as a Comilla bound bus hit him on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, in Shahpur area of Madhabpur upazila.

The deceased identified as Firoz Mia, 50, died on the spot.

Shayestaganj police station OC Liakat Ali said: “Police handed over the dead body to his family at their request.”

In Gopalganj, a man was killed being rammed by a truck on the Gopalganj-Kotalipara road of Sadar upazila.

The deceased, Sikdar Mabud, 65, was a rickshaw-van driver.

The injured van-driver was declared dead on arrival by the duty doctor.
