A court in Dhaka has framed charges against two suspended teachers of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in a case filed over “provoking suicide” of ninth-grader Aritree Adhikari in December last year.
Dhaka Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Rabiul Alam indicted them on Wednesday (Jul 10).
The two suspended teachers are: Nazneen Ferdous, acting principal of the school and Zinat Akhtar, the morning shift in-charge.
On March 20, Detective Branch Inspector Kazi Kamrul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Nazneen Ferdous and Zinat Akhtar.
The two teachers received bail after they surrendered before a Dhaka court on Jan 14.
The name of another accused in the case, the deceased’s class teacher Hasna Hena, was dropped from the charge sheet as the investigation officer could establish any charges brought against her.
On Dec 3, 2018, Aritree was found hanging from the ceiling of her home in the capital's Shantinagar area, hours after she and her parents were allegedly insulted by some teachers of the school.
The next day, her father Dilip Adhikari filed the case with Paltan Police accusing three teachers of provoking Aritri’s suicide.
