File photo of Dhaka North City Corporation office Mehedi Hasan/Dhaka TribuneDhaka North City Corporation, DNCC, has paid a false gas bill worth Tk 18.63 million in the name of Pouro Filling Station.
The graft, detected in the 2013-2014 audit, has recommended recovering the money from the guilty. DNCC mayor has said that as per the recommendation of the audit, steps will be taken against the culpable.
The Pouro Filling Station in Sayedabad only supplies octane and diesel and does not have provision to supply CNG (compressed natural gas). But the huge bill was paid in the name of CNG facility which does not exist.
A DNCC official has said that paying bill to a phantom CNG station which is 20 km from DNCC’s main office is contrary to financial regulation.
Several letters were sent to DNCC’s chief executive to take necessary action. A letter was also sent to the secretary of the ministry of local government, rural development and cooperatives. But no step was taken on the matter.
General manager of Pouro Filling Station, Forhad Uddin said: “We leased the station in 2016; those who ran it before us might have carried out the irregularities.”
DNCC mayor Md. Atiqul Islam, said: “There have been plenty of irregularities; we will take steps against those responsible.”
