Police have arrested the alleged rapist of the 7-year-old girl who was found dead at Dhaka’s Wari after being sexually assaulted before she was strangled to death by a rope.
The Detective Branch of police arrested Harun-ur-Rashid was arrested on Sunday (Jul 7), confirmed Wari Division Deputy Commissioner Iftekhar Ahmed.
“The media will be briefed at the DMP [Dhaka Metropolitan Police] media centre in the afternoon,” he said.
Police recovered Samiya’s body, a student of Silverdale School, from an unfinished apartment two floors above her Wari home late on Friday.
The victim's father, Abdus Salam, a businessman, said he returned home around 7pm and could not find Samiya in her room. He began searching with his wife.
When they failed to find the girl in their fifth-floor apartment, they began checking the other floors, some of which were under construction.
An autopsy revealed that she was sexually assaulted before being strangled to death and her body bore injuries near her genitals and lips.
