Due to poor drainage systems of the Dhaka WASA has caused waterlogging at 30 spots of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). A report made on the issue states that water logging is putting residents of 16 wards in a lot of misery.
DSCC sources say that at the beginning of monsoon, plans were taken to clean all drains and, as part of the plan, drains of five areas were cleaned between Dec 20 and Jan 30 of last year.
During this time, a list of waterlogged areas was made at the initiative of DSCC’s chief waste management official, air commodore Md. Jahid Hossain and additional chief waste management official Khondokar Millatul Islam.
The areas include: Dhanmondi 27, West Dhanmondi, Eskaton Road, Nazimuddin Road, Gonoktuli area, Nobabganj Park, Bongshal and other areas.
DSCC’s additional chief waste management official, Khondokar Millatul Islam, said: “It’s the duty of WASA to drain rain water; they are the owners of big drain and when we went to clean our drains we found that their ones are in appalling condition.”
Dhaka WASA’s executive director, engineer Taksim A Khan, has said: “We have taken a project to tackle waterlogging; if that is implemented then there won’t be a problem.”
