114 tigers in Sundarbans: Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Sahab Uddin said that although the number of tigers in the Sundarbans was 106 in 2015, a survey conducted by camera tracking in 2015 showed that there are now 114.The Sundarbans currently has 114 tigers, said Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Sahab Uddin.
“Although the number of tigers in the Sundarbans was 106 in 2015, a survey conducted by camera tracking in 2015 showed that there are now 114,” he told the Parliament on Saturday (Jun 29).
He added although the number of “Sundori” trees has gone down, the growth of “Gewa” trees have comparatively increased.
The minister said that that a five-year project worth over four and half billion has been undertaken and the implementation will start from Jul 1.
He added that the government has announced 48 locations as reserved in order to preserve biodiversity which includes: 20 wildlife reserves, 19 national gardens, three eco parks, two special biodiversity preservation areas, two safari parks, one aviary eco park and one marine park.
