The High Court has ordered the local deputy commission and superintendent of Barguna police to explain by 2pm on Thursday (Jun 27) what action they have taken over the murder of Rifat Sharif who was hacked to death in broad daylight at Barguna.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader gave the orders to Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar on Thursday (Jun 27).
He has been ordered to contact Barguna deputy commissioner and SP inform the court by 2 pm.
“He was stabbed openly and no one except his wife came forward help,” the court said, expressing disbelief.
“They shot the video but no one came forward. This is a failure on the onlookers’ part. The murderers wouldn’t have dared if people had come forward to help,” it added.
Twenty-five-year-old Rifat was attacked by three people, armed with sharp weapons, around 10am on Wednesday in front of his wife and many onlookers near Barguna Government College.
A video of the incident, captured in a surveillance camera, went viral on social media.
Rifat was rushed to Barguna General Hospital and later moved to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries around 4pm.
