A Dhaka court has placed former national football team captain and BNP Central Committee Sports Secretary Aminul Haque on remand for two days in a case filed over vandalism of public and private vehicles in front of the Secretariat building in the capital on December 5.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmudul Hossain placed him on the remand on Sunday, court official Mozammel Hossain told the Bangla Tribune.
Sub-Inspector Zafar Ali Bishwas of Shahbagh police station, where the case has been filed, submitted a petition before the court on December 6 seeking to put Aminul on a 10-day remand.
On the same day, Aminul petitioned for bail. The court denied him bail and fixed Sunday for the decision on the remand.
According to the case, Aminul was one of the leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated bodies who vandalized at least 100 government and privately-owned vehicles, including the motorcycle of a police sergeant, after BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia left the premises of a makeshift special court in Bakshibazar, Dhaka on December 5.
The case was filed with Shahbagh police station on the same day, and Aminul was subsequently arrested.
