Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yeasir Ahsan Chowdhury gave the order on Sunday (Jun 23), General Register Officer (GRO) Sheikh Rakibul Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
“Since Mukul surrendered and moved for bail, the judge granted it after signing a Tk 20,000 bond,” he said.
Defence counsel SK Abu Syed, who moved for Mukul argued that he was over 60 and ill and hence there was no chance of him fleeing if he was granted bail.
On Mar 28, a massive fire broke out at the 23-storied FR Tower and killed 26 people and injured scores.
Real estate company Rupayan Housing erected the 23-floor FR Tower on a land owned by engineer Faruque in Banani's Kamal Ataturk Avenue.
The ownership of the building was jointly held by the land owner and the developer. Hence, it was named Faruque Rupayan Tower, or FR Tower in short.
Tasvir, a member of the BNP’s central committee and the president of the party’s Kurigram wing, is Managing Director and CEO of Quasem Industries Limited.
Banani police Sub-Inspector Milton Datta filed a case against them along with Mukul. Both Faruqe and Tasvir have been granted bail.
