Round the year drive against adulteration: HC

A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court (HC) has ordered around the year anti-adulteration drive instead of such campaigns during a special event. The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al Jalil gave the order on Sunday, Jun 16.

At the hearing, Bangladesh Safe Food Authority was represented by lawyer Barrister Mohammed Faridul Islam while Bangladesh Standard Testing Institute, BSTI, was represented by Barrister Sarkar MR Hassan. The state was represented by Deputy Attorney General Md Mokhlesur Rahman.

Previously, HC ordered the swift removal of 52 inferior quality items from the market and asked the Directorate of the National Consumer Rights Protection and Bangladesh Safe Food Authority to submit their reports within ten days.

The court also ordered the suspension of the production of adulterated food items until their quality improves. The BSTI carried out an analysis of 313 products of which 52 were found to be of low quality.
