247 killed during Eid time travel

FILE PHOTO From May 30 till Jun 10, 247 persons have died in 212 accidents on rail, road and water with 664 wounded.
The information was given by president of the Passenger Rights Council, Brigadier GM Kamrul Islam, during a press conference held at the National Press Club on Wednesday (Jun 12).
“Eid travelling has been comfortable this year due to government’s strategic approach and rationing system of leave; death, accidents and injury have fallen.”
Of the accidents, 63 vehicles were buses, 38 covered vans, 19 micro buses, 30 Nasimon, Karimon, Easy bikes, 64 motor cycles and 26 other vehicles.
The main causes of accidents were due to the Eid time rush, driving unfit vehicles and using of inexperienced drivers. |
The organisation also unveiled ten recommendations to reduce accidents which include, using skilled drivers, controlling of speed on highways, introduction of ration based leave, fitness done through digital system and banning of locally-made three wheelers like Nasimon, Karimon from highways.
