There is still chaos regarding transport fare during Eid journey, complained Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association (BPWA).
“The home goers have to suffer as the train schedule is in disarray,” BPWA Secretary General Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury said in a media statement on Saturday (Jun 1) after an observation of the last couple of days.
The statement said that homebound passengers in almost all the routes are falling victim to transport owners charging an extra fare.
“The launch workers are setting up blankets at the decks and charging Tk 300-400 from passengers,” the statement read.
Moreover, not only do the passengers have to pay extra money for tickets, they unfairly have to pay extra toll at the launch and ferry terminals.
The organisation claimed that passengers have to pay three to four times more airfare on certain routes.
Even though several agencies are on the alert when it comes to the road, rail and water transport, the same cannot be said for airfares, the statement read.
It said that if this disorder cannot be stopped then low-income passengers won’t stop travelling on buses without fitness which will increase accidents and loss of life.
The organisation called on the government to take steps so that passengers don’t have to suffer the loss of life by travelling on transports without fitness of on the roof of the bus or launch.
