Micro-bus with dark glasses. There have been abductions in microbus with tinted black glass, which is against traffic laws. Reportedly, the tinted cars are picking up people for extortion. Those involved in this crime introduce themselves as law enforcers in civil clothes.

Many cars get fitness certificate with clear glass and then put dark glass paper. These cars are mostly used for abductions. On 1 April last, software engineer Kamrul Hassan disappeared after coming out of his office in Mirpur DOHS while another computer engineer, Ataur Rahman Shahin, was picked up on 2 May from the Tejgaon area.

When abductions rose in 2013 and 2014, the home ministry issued a notification asking all vehicles to take off the dark glass papers. Later, the home ministry’s decision was challenged in a writ by lawyer Manzil Morhsed and the court issued a stay order on the banning.

The court ordered that with permission from BRTA and home ministry, glass can be used.

Engineer Lokman Hossain, said: “the fitness is carried out with normal glass; the glasses are changed later at the wish of the car owner.”

Additional police commissioner (traffic) Mir Rezaul Alam, says: “we are prosecuting people for using dark glasses regularly.
